The mission of ALTRANS is to provide mobility, promote well-being, and enhance quality of life for the citizens of Alabama. Alabama’s transit providers serve local communities by providing accessible transportation to and from health care providers, employers, schools, places of worship, activity centers, shopping and recreational destinations. All the places you need to be.
ALTRANS providers are funded and supported by Federal, State and Local government. Services include everything from fixed-route bus routes in large urban centers to demand-response vans in the most rural areas of our State. ALTRANS is for everyone. Whether you want to avoid driving in congested traffic or strive to reduce vehicle emissions, ALTRANS can help. If you have a doctor’s appointment and no way to get there, ALTRANS can get you there. When you need to pick up a gallon of milk but your car is in the shop, ALTRANS has you covered. ALTRANS gets you places.

Transit is a section located within the Local Transportation Bureau at the Alabama Department of Transportation. The Transit Section is responsible for meeting the multimodal transportation requirements outlined in Section 134, Title 23, U.S.C. and Sections 5303, 5307, 5310, 5311 and 5313, Title 49, U.S.C. including management of the Federal Transit Administration ARRA funds.
